S.T.A.G.S. 8th Annual Key Steps Competition and Mike Ellington Trophy

We had such an large number of gymnasts wanting to enter this competition this year that despite Crispin School allowing us an extra hour until 5.00 p.m. we had to cut two sections from our competition: reception level 1, who will have opportunities in future years and the B.S.G.A. Section whose gymnasts will be entering external competitions again during the coming academic year.  After that, entries from visiting teams were taken on a 'first come first served basis'.

So, with 93 gymnasts competing 'floor' and 'vault', S.T.A.G.S most senior gymnasts, past and present, became the 10 judges on 4 judging panels.  While the visiting teams were looked after by their adult coaches, 5 younger members of the current 11.00 class became the hardworking team managers, looking after all the S.T.A.G.S teams in each of the four rounds of the competition.  At the same time, a strong team of volunteer S.T.A.G.S. parents acted as officials: 2 scorers, the certificate writer and the announcer.

All gymnasts received a certificate for each apparatus, showing their individual scores. Additionally, gymnasts from the 4 venues were competing individually for medals and in teams representing their club or venue for levels trophies within each school year group.  Finally, at the culmination of the event, the venue or club achieving the highest average score across all their competitors throughout the competition, was awarded the Mike Ellington trophy.

The venues competing were Beckington First School (BFS) with a team of 19 competitors, Catcott Primary School (CATTS)with 24 competitors, Gymfinity (GYMF) 13 competitors and the home team, S.T.A.G.S. with 35 competitors.
