The landing mats from the Olympic venue at Greenwich finally arrived!

We managed to squeeze them into the apparatus store making our section look pretty much like the inside of a sardine tin!  However, as the old Chinese proverb says, 'You can break one stick but not a tight bundle of them.'  Equally, such an arrangement provides both strength and security.

It is certainly a joy to be able to use apparatus of this quality.  As one assistant coach was heard to say, after an experimental jump on, 'Oh!  It takes all my impetus away !'  That will be because it's a landing mat!

In the past, our blue 'landing/crash' mats have been more Jacks of all trades but masters of none. These mats are solid and secure and so much safer to land a vault or somersaults from a trampet.

Thanks to Zaida for taking all the photographs.

Kelly, Jemma and Jessica had a lot of fun experimenting, using these mats as both rebound and landing apparatus.

Then, finally, Katherine got down to the serious business of using them as they were intended, as landing mats!
