Everything is ready!

Warm up for Round 1!

Gymnasts from Beckington First School (11 competitors), Catcott Primary School (15 competitors) and Gymfinity Gym Club (16 competitors)j all joined the 25 competing S.T.A.G.S. gymnasts for this year's competition. The general standard of work presented by all the gymnasts seems to improve each year and 2014 was no exception.  Below are images of S.T.A.G.S. gymnasts as they competed in the Key Steps rules sections of the competition showing great style.

Following last year's introduction there was a special section again this year, governed by the rules and criteria employed at British Schools Gymnastics Association's competitions for those S.T.A.G.S. gymnasts who had entered this year's SW Schools Floor & Vault Competition in March and in which were included those Gymfinity gymnasts who had also entered B.S.G.A. competitions then and earlier in the year.

This was quite a tough section for the young Wednesday class S.T.A.G.S. gymnasts since this section was irrespective of age.  However, the younger ones rose to the challenge and  although they did not gain overall medals this time, the quality of their individual floor routine elements was excellent!  Extracted as they worked they look good enough to be used as text-book examples!

However, the real medal winners for the section using B.S.G.A. Competition Rules and Criteria came from the older more experienced gymnasts.

Gymfinity (Gold medal), S.T.A.G.S. (Silver medal) and (Bronze medal) with Gymfinity taking the levels trophy.

The Mike Ellington Trophy was won this year by Beckington First School.  However, as they are among the younger competitors competing in the first two rounds only one pupil was available to accept the trophy on behalf of his school!  However, congratulations to Beckington First School for their excellent results!

While Round 1 scores were being collated S.T.A.G.S. gymnasts from the special section showed the routines they were going to compete later in the day. Routines which mirrored each other were shown theirs as a duet.  The photographs below showed how successful gymnasts were in synchronization and execution.

After the second round and again after the third by popular demand, while scores were being collated, The Gymfinity Gems delighted the spectators with their group routine.

It was lovely to see faces from the past.  Competition gymnasts from circa 2005/6 who had come back to help our current S.T.A.G.S. competition class, to judge, act as photographer and present medals.
