S.T.A.G.S. 6th Annual Key Steps Competition and Mike Ellington Trophy

It was another hot and sunny, summer day for our competition on 13th July 2013.  As well as S.T.A.G.S. gymnasts competing, we had visitors from Beckington First School from Frome, Catcott Primary School, St Johns and St Francis from Bridgwater and the newly formed Gymfinity also from Frome.

This is a friendly competition for all those S.T.A.G.S. gymnasts who do not, or have not yet, entered external competition such as B.S.G.A. Schools Competitions or their equivalent and our visiting competitors are gymnasts of similar experience.

With 75 gymnasts competing in 8 age-group categories, here are some snapshots of the younger competitors with the silver medalists on the left, bronze medalists on the right and gold medal winners in the centre.

This year we added a section for those year 4 gymnasts for whom there was but one external competition available to them throughout the whole year.  They competed against each other under the criteria and rules for the British Schools Gymnastics Association's Competitions to give them a second competition.

Many thanks to parents and friends for these photographs.

Finally, all the scores from all the competitors from each training venue are added together and averaged by the number of gymnasts from that venue and the venue with the highest average score is awarded the Mike Ellington Trophy.  This year the trophy was awarded to the newly formed 'Gymnfinity' from Frome.

Congratulations to them!

This competition is run largely by members of S.T.A.G.S. senior competition class.  They set up the venue and while the more senior girls act as judges, others look after the competitors as team managers giving guidance and advice to the competitors, from warm up room to medal ceremony, to make sure everyone feels comfortable and confident.
